Strategy 2022-2025

SiS strategy towards 2025 – version 2 (October 23, 2023)

Vision: The Student's Best

Purpose of the organization:

To address the welfare needs of students at each educational institution.

Goals and means:

SiS shall offer relevant services that enhance student well-being and strengthen reputation, while operating both efficiently and profitably.

Framework conditions

According to the Student Welfare Organization Act, the educational institution has the overall responsibility for the students' learning environment. The leadership of the educational institution shall, in collaboration with the student welfare organization, facilitate a good study environment and work to improve the overall learning environment at the educational institution.

It is SiS's task to address the welfare needs of students at each educational institution: to facilitate a safe and efficient study situation, contribute to well-being and a stimulating student environment for both individual students and student organizations.

Competition among educational institutions has increased, and student welfare has become an important recruitment tool. This means that educational institutions and SiS, in collaboration, must focus more on good student welfare offerings.

About SiS

SiS is by, with, and for the students. The students shall own, manage, and have the opportunity to work and/or learn within the organization.

SiS is Eco-Lighthouse certified. In addition, social, economic, and environmental sustainability is considered throughout the organization.

SiS can make a difference within the UN's Sustainable Development Goals number 3 (good health and well-being), 10 (reduced inequalities), 11 (sustainable cities and communities), and 17 (partnerships for the goals), and shall work towards this as far as possible.

Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good health and well-being

Everything SiS does supports Sustainable Development Goal number three. We facilitate social meeting places in our housing, cafés, at the sports center, and other locations. We offer nutritious food in our cafés and have a health service for students.

Sustainable Development Goal 10: Reduced inequalities

SiS contributes to reducing inequalities by offering accessible services for all students, which are either free or very affordable. This evens out differences both between students and other groups in society, and among students themselves. This applies to all students, regardless of gender, ethnicity, nationality, orientation, or economic background.

Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities

SiS shall ensure inclusive, safe, and resilient communities by building green and continuously offering relevant and necessary services developed in line with students' needs. We aim to create a vibrant and inclusive student city with activities around the clock.

Sustainable Development Goal 17: Partnerships for the goals

SiS is and shall be a link for the student city of Stavanger. We can achieve more together than alone, and therefore it is a given to emphasize the UN's Sustainable Development Goal number 17, which is about partnerships. We will, to the extent it is natural and feasible, collaborate with both the municipality and the state, the various educational institutions, and not least the students and other relevant actors, to achieve our goals.

What will we deliver?

We shall have the right number of student housing with varied living arrangements, central locations, a good and safe living environment, and prices adapted to students' finances.

The cafés shall have a varied menu with products of the right quality and be pleasant, social meeting places in attractive locations at the university and colleges.

Health services shall focus on prevention, offer low-threshold counseling services, groups and courses, and a health station.

The sports center shall have the country's best and most varied training offerings for students and be a safe, social arena that enhances quality of life.

Our communication and marketing shall ensure that SiS's role and offerings are well known among students and their parents, academia, businesses, politicians, and employees.

We shall have a high level of service, follow quality-assured routines, and have relevant expertise in the areas of finance, ICT, and personnel.

Our internal culture shall contribute to an efficient organization and an attractive workplace. SiS shall have clear leadership that is forward-thinking and motivating.

Our priorities towards 2025

SiS shall become more visible and increase awareness by:

  • Working purposefully to appear as one entity
  • Strengthening Stavanger as a student city
  • Building a new welfare building for students
  • Building 1,000 new student housing units on the Ullandhaug and Kampen campuses
  • Offering more health services to students
  • Supporting students in their demand for increased study support
  • Digitizing everything that should be digitized
  • Developing future café concepts tailored to students' needs
  • Recruiting more students for work and training within the organization
