If you experience acute incidents in your student housing such as vandalism, water leaks, electrical problems, feeling unsafe, noise or similar during SiS’s opening hours, contact the student housing office (51 83 33 00) as soon as possible.

Emergency incidents (After opening hours)

Contact Securitas (22 97 10 76) if you experience insecurity, noise, graffiti, vandalism, water leaks, electrical problems or similar issues outside of SiS’s opening hours.

If you lose your keys outside the student housing office’s opening hours, Securitas will help you get back in. This costs NOK 1,250.

Fire instructions for SiS Housing

To maintain fire safety in our homes, it is important that you as a resident familiarize yourself with this description. Failure to react in the event of an alarm/fire, use of non-approved equipment, etc. may result in criminal liability or financial responsibility. Only approved electrical equipment may be used. See the house rules and the rental contract for further information.

It is very important to avoid frequent false alarms, as this leads to a lack of response in the event of a real fire.

Fire instructions

In the event of an alarm, a message is automatically sent to the fire department, which immediately responds.

Emergency number for fire tel. 110

Help others – try to extinguish the fire if possible. (Where the alarm has been triggered is shown on the fire alarm panel display)
Close doors and windows.

Wheelchair users: If you cannot get help, stay in your room or on the balcony, call the fire department at 110 and wait for assistance.

Residents gather outside the building, by the meeting point sign.

In case of a false alarm – wait for instructions before returning to the building.

If the alarm is triggered by accident (steam, cooking fumes, showering, etc.):

Call the fire department – tel. 110 – report the false alarm, even if they are already on their way.

Silence the alarm on the fire control panel (see instructions at the main entrance)

Meet the fire department.

Shutdown equipment

Fire extinguishers are available in every house/apartment and in the common areas. It is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with where they are located.

Escape routes

In the event of a fire, it is very important for evacuation that residents have familiarized themselves with the applicable escape routes from the dwelling. Remember that the elevator does not operate in case of fire. Escape routes and emergency exits must always be kept clear in case an evacuation is needed. This is a non‑negotiable requirement from the fire department, and SiS may pursue violations of clear escape routes with regard to financial liability for damage to property and loss of life and health. (This means that it is not permitted to leave garbage bags, shoes, boxes, etc. in corridors and stairwells.)

How to avoid alarms going off in the home

Never leave the stove unattended when you are cooking

Use pots that match the size of the burner, and remember to use a lid

Turn off the stove after use

Always use the extractor fan when you cook. When using electrical appliances such as a waffle iron, toaster, kettle, rice cooker, etc., always place them under the extractor fan.

Keep ovens and stovetops clean, as burnt food residues can trigger the alarm.

Disassembling or covering fire detectors can be life-threatening and will result in a fee

If negligence is established or the fire department responds due to a false alarm, the costs will be charged to the resident in accordance with the current price list.

Fire alarm control panel

Familiarize yourself thoroughly with the fire alarm control panel. Feel free to contact SiS Housing if you believe further training is necessary.
You will find the fire alarm control panel, together with instructions on how it works, by the main entrance to the residence. When an alarm is triggered, the panel will show where there is a fire or where an unwanted alarm has been activated. This is important in order to be able to extinguish a fire and, not least, for evacuation. Remember that the house manager has the master key.

In case of false alarm

Did you trigger the fire alarm by mistake?

Then YOU must call 110 within 90 seconds to stop the fire department from being dispatched.

We are billed 10,000 kroner for an unnecessary call-out. If you don’t call in time, you’re the one who has to pay the bill.

Stove guard

If the hob and/or oven is not working, remember to check that the stove guard has not been triggered. You can check this by pressing the sensor (white box) on the wall above the hob. It will emit a beep before the power comes back on. If the oven still does not work, you must report the fault via Uni Alltid.

Question 4

Internet

Accepted Answer

Internet is included in the rent. To connect, you need a wireless router or a network cable. There are two outlets in the wall, but only one is connected to the network. If you’re unable to connect, use the other outlet.

If you have problems:

Check your internet access using a cable – not the router

Check with your neighbor. If he or she has Internet access, the problem is most likely with your own computer.

Check the property’s Facebook group on your phone to see if others have the same problem

SiS bolig does not require any password or username to connect. If you are asked for this, you have connected to the wrong network.

Make sure wireless connectivity is turned on if you are using a laptop

If none of the above works, you can report an issue on the housing page.

Question 5

Keys

Keys are collected at the student housing office on the third floor of the SiS student house. Remember to bring your admission letter and proof of payment of the semester fee.

If you lose your keys outside the student housing office’s opening hours, Securitas (22 97 10 76) will help you get in. This costs NOK 1,250.

If you are moving out outside the student housing office’s opening hours, you can drop your key in the hatch outside the SiS student house on the UiS Ullandhaug campus. You’ll find it on the pillar outside the entrance facing the SiS sports center parking lot. Remember to put the key in an envelope labeled with your name and housing address. Envelopes are available next to the hatch.

House Hosts

The house host is the link between us and you as a tenant. They have several social and practical responsibilities, such as:

🤝 Contribute to a good living environment and prevent conflicts

The resident host must not be contacted after 9:00 p.m., and they have no responsibilities related to fault reports for your residence. These must instead be reported to us through Unialltid or the SiS Bolig app.

Follow Bjergsted’s Facebook group. Our Facebook groups are for residents only. Because of this, we ask you to confirm who you are by giving your name if your Facebook profile does not tell us this.

Insurance

Remember contents insurance when you move in with us – you are not covered by contents insurance through SiS. You can check whether you are insured through your parents’ policy, an organization you are a member of, or alternatively purchase your own.

Why home contents insurance? If unforeseen events such as fire, water damage, or a break-in in your home or storage unit occur, this can lead to expenses and losses for you as a resident. You can use your home contents insurance to limit your own financial loss in such situations.

Subletting to other students

Remember that you are personally responsible for ensuring that bills are paid on time, and for any damage to the residence, furnishings, or the property in general. The completed contract must be submitted to the student housing office in the SiS student house.

Question 10

Rent

Accepted Answer

You don’t need to pay a deposit to SiS Housing. Electricity, internet, and use of the laundry facilities are included in the rent.

The first rent payment is due after you move in, and you can find the invoice under economy on My page on Uni Alltid at the beginning of each month. The invoice is due on the 20th of the same month. The rent can also be paid by e-invoice. This will be pre-filled in your online bank, and you only need to confirm the payment. If you have not paid the rent by the due date, you will be charged a late fee.

How long can I stay with SiS?

The maximum length of stay in our residences is five (5) years.

Question 12

Furniture and storage

The 1-room apartments have a kitchen, a bed (90 cm), a desk and a wardrobe.

The 2- and 3-room apartments have kitchens and wardrobes.

All homes in Bjergsted have an associated storage room.

Question 13

New contract

The tenancy agreement is valid for one academic year. You will receive an offer of renewal in the middle of January. You must accept this contract by March 1. The rent will be adjusted from July 1.

Requirements for applying for an extension:
– Documentation of continued study rights must be provided
– All invoices must be paid

Termination

The notice period is two (2) months. You must terminate the tenancy on the housing page. Only this form of termination is accepted.

Question 15

Parking

General information about parking:
It is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with the signage and applicable parking regulations. These may change, so it is important that you check the information provided here against any updates.

Power outlets in apartments, or outdoor power outlets from our properties, must not be used to charge electric cars. In places where we do not have our own charging stations, you must use a fast charger. To find these, use the Norwegian Electric Vehicle Association’s overview of fast chargers on their website or in their app.

Deregistered cars or other vehicles that are not used weekly must not be parked in our parking spaces. These will be removed at the owner’s expense.

Bjergsted

The property is not recommended for residents with a car.

Residents with children in the family apartments are offered parking, but must have a valid permit. Parking permits can be picked up at the student housing office on the third floor of the SiS student house. Even if you have a valid permit, capacity may be limited.

We ask that you familiarize yourself thoroughly with the signage and the applicable parking regulations for the area.

Question 16

Cleaning and tidying of common areas

Residents are responsible for keeping the common areas tidy and clean. If you have used the common areas, you are expected to tidy up and clean after yourself so that it looks nice for the next person.

In addition, the landlord prepares a cleaning schedule for the weekly cleaning of TV lounges and shared kitchens. This schedule shows which housing unit is responsible for cleaning each week and includes an overview of what needs to be done.

Power outage

If the power has gone out in your student housing, but all the other homes in the area are unaffected, check the fuse box in the common hallway. Contact us if you need help.

Has the power gone out in several buildings in the area, the whole street, or more? Check Lnett’s pages for operational notices and faults for updates.

Stove guard

Trash

All waste must be sorted for recycling. Underground waste containers are placed in a clearly visible location outside Rosenberggata 65. These are open.

Do not leave garbage next to the waste stations or in common areas. It will not be collected and will result in a fee.

During larger move-in and move-out periods, containers will be placed outside the buildings.

Question 19

Moving out and cleaning

When you move out, the residence must be cleaned and handed over to SiS in the same condition as when you moved in.

You can return the key at the student housing office, or in the drop box outside the SiS student house on the UiS Ullandhaug campus. You’ll find it on the pillar outside the entrance facing the SiS sports center parking lot. Remember to put the key in an envelope labeled with your name and housing address. Envelopes are available next to the drop box.

The property will be inspected by the caretaker, and you will be billed for any damages or poor cleaning.

See the rules for moving-out cleaning in this video or read the points below. These must be followed to avoid fees. Note that not all of the points necessarily apply to you, as student housing can be equipped differently.

Final cleaning of the bedsit/apartment:

Furniture and lamps are washed and/or vacuumed

Beds are wiped down and vacuumed

Floors and baseboards are washed (remember to move beds, refrigerators, and other furniture to clean behind them)

Walls are washed

Ceiling to be dusted with a damp cloth

Wardrobe is cleaned inside and outside

Doors are washed

All windows are washed on the inside. The reversible windows are also washed on the outside.

Kitchen in apartment:

Clear out and wash drawers and cabinets (including the tops of the cabinets), and clean the countertop

Wash the walls and floors. Dust the ceiling with a damp cloth.

Thoroughly clean the refrigerator, stove, and kitchen fan, both inside and out

Clean behind and under the stove and refrigerator after they have been pulled out

Bath and toilet:

Mirror, sink, cabinet and toilet are cleaned

Floors and walls are washed, and ceilings are dusted with a damp cloth

Door is washed

Shared corridor:

Floors, walls, cabinets and ceilings are dusted with a damp cloth

The storage room is cleared and vacuumed, and all contents are removed

Shared kitchen:

Clear out and clean drawers and cabinets

Clear food items out of the refrigerator

Furthermore, please refer to the duty roster and the agreement with the other users of the kitchen regarding how the shared cleaning is to be carried out in connection with moving out.

Laundry

If you live in Bjergsted, you have access to the shared laundry room, which is located in the basement at Rosenberggata 65. Remember to keep the laundry room clean and tidy. Empty the filter in the tumble dryer before and after use – if this is not done, it poses a fire hazard.
