If you experience emergency incidents in your student housing such as vandalism, water leaks, electrical problems, insecurity, noise, or similar during SiS opening hours, contact the student housing office (51 83 33 00) as soon as possible.

Emergency incidents (After hours)

Contact Securitas (22 97 10 76) if you experience insecurity, noise, graffiti, vandalism, water leaks, electrical problems, or similar outside of SiS opening hours.

If you lose your keys outside of the student housing office's opening hours, Securitas will assist you with unlocking. This costs NOK 1,250.

Fire instructions for SiS housing

To ensure fire safety in our residences, it is important that you, as a resident, familiarize yourself with this description. Failure to react during an alarm/fire, use of non-approved equipment, etc., may result in legal liability or financial responsibility. Only approved electrical equipment should be used. See the house rules and lease agreement for further information.

It is very important to avoid frequent unwanted alarms, as this contributes to a lack of reaction in the event of a real fire.

Fire instructions

In the event of an alarm, a message is automatically sent to the fire department, which will immediately respond.

Help others—try to extinguish if possible. (Where the alarm is triggered is shown on the display at the fire panel)
Close doors and windows.

Wheelchair users: If you do not receive help, stay in your room, possibly on the balcony, call the fire department at tel. 110 and wait for help.

In the event of a false alarm – wait for instructions to return to the building.

If the alarm is triggered accidentally (steam, cooking fumes, showering, etc.):

Call the fire department – tel. 110 – report a false alarm, even if they are already on their way.

Reset the alarm at the fire panel (see instructions at the main entrance).NB: Rennebergstien 9 and 19 have their own reset button in the room (by the entrance door).

Fire extinguishing equipment

Fire extinguishers are located in each residence/apartment and in common rooms. It is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with their locations.

Escape routes

In the event of a fire, it is crucial for evacuation that residents are familiar with the applicable escape routes from the residence. Remember that the elevator does not operate during a fire. Escape routes and emergency exits must always be clear, in case of evacuation. This is a non-negotiable requirement from the fire department, and SiS may pursue violations of clear escape routes in relation to financial responsibility for property damage and loss of life and health. (This means it is not allowed to leave garbage bags, shoes, boxes, etc., in corridors and stairwells)

How to avoid alarms in the residence

Never leave the stove unattended when cooking

Use pots that are the right size for the burner, and remember the lid

Turn off the stove after use

Always use the extractor fan when cooking. When using electronic equipment such as waffle irons, toasters, kettles, rice cookers, etc., always place them under the extractor fan.

Keep ovens and hotplates clean. Burnt food residues can trigger the alarm.

Dismantling or covering smoke detectors can be life-threatening and will incur a fee

In cases of proven negligence or response from the fire department due to a false alarm, costs will be charged to the resident according to the current price list.

Fire panel

Familiarize yourself thoroughly with the panel. Feel free to contact SiS housing if you feel further training is necessary.
The fire panel, along with instructions on how it works, is located at the main entrance to the residence. In the event of an alarm, the fire panel shows where the fire is or where an unwanted alarm has been triggered. This is important for extinguishing fires and, not least, for evacuation. Remember that the house manager has a master key.

In the event of a false alarm

Did you trigger the fire alarm by mistake?

Then YOU must call 110 within 90 seconds to stop the fire department from responding.

We are billed 10,000 kroner for an unnecessary response. If you do not call in time, you will have to pay the bill.

Stove guard (applies only to Rennebergstien 9 and 19)

If the hotplate and/or stove is not working, remember to check that the stove guard has not been activated. You can check this by pressing the sensor (white box) on the wall above the hotplates. It will beep before the power returns. If the stove still does not work, you must report the fault via Uni Alltid.

Question 4

Internet

Accepted Answer

Internet is included in the rent. To connect, you need a wireless router or network cable. There are two outlets in the wall, but only one is connected to the network. If you can't connect, use the other outlet.

If you have problems:

Check the internet access using a cable – not a router

Check with your neighbor. If he or she has Internet, the issue is likely with your device

Check the housing Facebook group on your mobile to see if others have the same problem

SiS housing requires no password or username for connection. If you are asked for this, you have connected to the wrong network

Ensure that wireless connection is turned on if you are using a laptop

If nothing above works, you canreport the issue on the housing page.

Question 5

Keys

Accepted Answer

Keys can be picked up at the student housing office on the third floor of the SiS student house. Remember to bring your admission proof and receipt for the paid semester fee.

If you lose your keys outside the student housing office's opening hours, Securitas (22 97 10 76) will assist you with unlocking. This costs NOK 1,250.

When moving out outside the student housing office's opening hours, you can leave the key in the slot outside the SiS student house on the UiS campus Ullandhaug. You will find this on the pillar outside the entrance facing the SiS sports center parking lot. Remember to place the key in an envelope marked with your name and housing address. Envelopes can be found next to the slot.

House Hosts

A new house host starts on 1 August 2026. Contact information will be published here from that date.

The house host is the link between us and you as a tenant. They have several social and practical tasks such as:

🧹 Assisting with organizing the cleaning and tidying of common areas

💬 Organizing social activities

🤝 Contributing to a good living environment and preventing conflicts

The house host should not be contacted after 9:00 PM, and they have no responsibilities related to reporting issues with your accommodation. These should instead be reported to us through Unialltid or the SiS housing app.

Insurance

Remember renter's insurance when moving in with us – you are not covered by SiS's renter's insurance. You can check if you are insured through your parents' insurance, an organization you are a member of, or possibly purchase your own.

Why renter's insurance? If unforeseen events occur, such as fire, water damage, or burglary in your home or storage unit, this can lead to expenses and losses for you as a resident. You can use renter's insurance to limit your own financial loss in such cases.

Subletting to other students

Remember that you are personally responsible for ensuring that bills are paid on time, and for any damage to the residence, furnishings, or the property in general. The completed contract should be submitted to the student housing office at SiS student house.

Question 10

Rent

Accepted Answer

You don't need to pay a deposit to SiS housing. Electricity, internet, and laundry use are included in the rent.

The first rent payment is due after moving in, and you can find the invoice under economy on My page at Uni Alltid at the beginning of each month. The invoice is due on the 20th of the same month. Rent can also be paid with e-invoice. This comes pre-filled to your online bank, and you just need to confirm the payment. If you haven't paid the rent by the due date, a late fee will be charged.

How long can I stay with SiS?

Furniture and storage

Rennebergstien 9 and 19

Studio apartments have a kitchen, bed (90 cm), desk, and wardrobe.

The kitchen in Rennebergstien 9 and 19 includes a refrigerator, hob, and combined oven/microwave.

The apartment is not connected to a storage room.

Rennebergstien 11-17

Studio apartments have a kitchen, bed (90 cm), desk, and wardrobe.

One-bedroom apartments have a bed (160 cm), kitchen, and wardrobe.

The kitchen in Rennebergstien 11-17 includes a refrigerator and hob.

The apartments are connected to a storage room.

Question 13

New contract

Accepted Answer

The lease is valid for one academic year. You will be offered an extension in mid-January. You must accept this contract by March 1st. The rent will be adjusted from July 1st.

Requirements for applying for an extension:
– Documentation of continued study rights must be provided
– All bills must be paid

The notice period is two (2) months. You must terminate the housing on boligsiden. Only this form of termination is accepted.

Parking

General information about parking:

It is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with signage and current parking regulations. These can change, so it is important that you check the information provided here against any updates.

Sockets from apartments or external sockets from our residences should not be used to charge electric cars. In places where we do not have our own charging stations, you must use a fast charger. To find these, use the Norwegian Electric Vehicle Association's overview of fast chargers on their website or app.

Unregistered vehicles or other vehicles not in use weekly should not be parked in our parking spaces. These will be removed at the owner's expense.Rennebergstien:

These student accommodations are not recommended for those with cars, and we do not have parking spaces for residents at Rennebergstien.

Follow current signage and parking regulations on campus.

Question 16

Cleaning and tidying of common areas

Residents are responsible for keeping the common areas tidy and clean. If you have used the common areas, it is expected that you tidy up and clean after yourself so that it looks nice for the next person.

In addition, the landlord creates a cleaning schedule for the weekly cleaning of TV lounges and shared kitchens. This list shows which housing unit is responsible for cleaning each week and includes an overview of what needs to be done.

Power outage

If the power has gone out in your student housing but all other residences in the area are unaffected, check the fuse box in the common hallway. Contact us if you need assistance.

Has the power gone out in several buildings in the area, the whole street, or more? Check Lnett's pages for operational messages and faults for updates.

Stove guard (applies only to Rennebergstien 9 and 19)

If the hotplate and/or stove is not working, remember to check that the stove guard has not been triggered. You can check this by pressing the sensor (white box) on the wall above the hotplates. It will emit a beep before the power returns. If the stove still doesn't work, you must report the fault via Uni Alltid.

Trash

All waste must be sorted for recycling. Underground waste containers are located outside the buildings. You can find a glass container outside Rennebergstien 17. The containers are open.

Do not leave garbage next to the waste stations or in common areas. This will not be collected and will incur a fee.

During larger move-in and move-out periods, containers will be placed outside the buildings.

Question 19

Moving out and cleaning

When you move out, the residence must be cleaned and handed over to SiS in the same condition as when you moved in.

You can return the key at the student housing office or in the slot outside the SiS student house on the UiS campus Ullandhaug. You will find this on the pillar outside the entrance facing the SiS sports center parking lot. Remember to put the key in an envelope marked with your name and housing address. Envelopes can be found next to the slot.

The residence will be inspected by the caretaker, and you will be billed for any damages or poor cleaning.

Cleaning of the room/apartment:

Furniture and lamps are to be washed and/or vacuumed

Beds are to be wiped and vacuumed

Floors and baseboards are to be washed (remember to move beds, refrigerators, and other furniture to clean behind them)

Walls are to be washed

Ceilings are to be dusted with a damp cloth

Wardrobes are to be cleaned inside and out

Doors are to be washed

All windows are to be washed inside. The reversible windows are also to be washed outside

Kitchen in apartment:

Tidy and clean drawers and cabinets (including the tops of the cabinets), and clean the countertop

Wash walls and floors. Ceilings are to be dusted with a damp cloth

Clean the refrigerator, stove, and kitchen fan thoroughly, both inside and out

Clean behind and under the stove and refrigerator after they have been pulled out

Bathroom and toilet:

Mirrors, sinks, cabinets, and toilets are to be washed

Floors and walls are to be washed, and ceilings are to be dusted with a damp cloth

Door is to be washed

Common hallway:

Floors, walls, cabinets, and ceilings are to be dusted with a damp cloth

Storage room is to be tidied and vacuumed, and all contents removed

Shared kitchen:

Tidy and clean out drawers and cabinets

Remove food items from the refrigerator

Furthermore, refer to the duty roster and agreement with the other users of the kitchen on how shared cleaning should be conducted in connection with moving out

Laundry

If you live in Rennebergstien 9-19 you have access to the communal laundry room. This is located on the 1st floor of Rennebergstien 11.

Remember to keep the laundry room clean and tidy. Empty the filter in the dryer before and after use – this poses a fire hazard if not done.
