Bigbang to Hvelvet Stage


The classic trio
It’s easy to forget that Bigbang is a trio, that everything you hear and see comes from just three musicians. Where most rock bands need four or even five members to keep the ship afloat, the classic trio leans on musical skill, dynamics and multitasking.



Bass, drums and a guitar – it’s the most demanding, but perhaps also the noblest band format. When it works, it can be magical – just look at Cream, Nirvana or The Jimi Hendrix Experience. With Bigbang, it works.

The lineup that defined the band
Olaf, Niko and Øystein are not the band’s first lineup, but this is undoubtedly the constellation that has defined them:



Olaf Olsen: Easily recognizable behind the drums and a sought-after contributor for others when he’s not on the road with Bigbang. He is also one of two Olsens in his brother Todd Terje’s band project.

Nikolai Hængsle: A busy man, both as a bassist par excellence and as a music producer. A permanent fixture in Elephant9 and a key figure in the brilliant project Band of Gold.

Øystein Greni: The band’s vocalist, guitarist and songwriter. He is a clear frontman and the only constant member since the beginning. Øystein grew up with music in his blood and was joining band rehearsals before he could talk.

Music and releases
We have to go back to 2023 to find Bigbang’s latest release, “Le Californie”. Tracks from it such as “Dogtown Boys”, “She’s all right” and, not least, the melancholic gem “Another Kind of Lonely” have since established themselves as solid live favorites.

When we can expect more new material from the Oslo trio is unknown, but what is certain is that new things are always being worked on in Øystein Greni’s studio.
