Kielland Salon: Just an Alibi?

Diversity is a concept we encounter in many contexts. It encompasses, among other things, ethnicity, gender, disability, age, and sexuality. Diversity is enshrined in law, but in some cases it can feel like something used merely for appearances.

Norwegian-Lebanese Nancy Herz is an author, sociologist, and social commentator, and is currently promoting her book Have I Just Been a Token? A Story of Power and Diversity. She has extensive experience in diversity work and has served as a state secretary responsible for integration. Penda Faal is an actor from Stavanger. She has long been affiliated with Rogaland Theatre, works in theatre for children and young people, and is known from films and TV series. This autumn, she stars in the action thriller A Nation in Check.

We have invited the two of them to the first Kielland Salon of the autumn for a conversation about how diversity works in practice, who is responsible for ensuring that more perspectives are heard, and what it feels like to have been used as a diversity token.
