Opinion piece course for students

Learn how to write an opinion piece and get it published.

This course is for those who want to take part in public debate or gain more attention for their research.

The library’s event developer and former debate journalist at the newspaper Vårt Land, David Sviland, shares his best tips and gives feedback on your op-ed idea.

When: Wednesday 9 September, 14:15–15:30.
Where: Kjølv Egelands hus, KE A-253

The course has two parts. In the first 45 minutes you will get a lecture, while in the last half hour we will go around and discuss what each participant is considering writing an op-ed about. So prepare a brief pitch.

You will learn:

What editors look for in an opinion piece
How to find a strong angle
How to use facts, language and style to strengthen your message
What happens once your op-ed is out in the world
Preparation: Bring your op-ed idea. No other equipment is needed.
