Stavanger Chamber Music Festival is a regional festival based in the municipality of Stavanger. It always takes place in week 32, like a late-summer dream, where we invite you to six days packed with 28 fantastic and varied events. We are proud that around ten of these are specially designed for children and young people.

We also put on individual concerts in, and collaborate with, other municipalities: Sola, the former Rennesøy, Sandnes, Time, etc. This varies somewhat from year to year, but we always schedule concerts at Sandnes Kulturhus, the Ruin Church in Sola and, of course, Utstein Monastery on Mosterøy.

The festival’s vision is to be one of Europe’s leading chamber music festivals for both performers and audiences. The consistently high artistic quality is the backbone of the festival. We aim to strengthen the intrinsic value of the art form through continuity, raising quality and innovation.

In 2026 we step into the world of fairy tales! Since the dawn of music, composers have been inspired by legends, lore and myths. In vocal music, the story is conveyed through the sung word; in instrumental music, everything is left to the listener’s inner world. Musically, we will experience Narcissus’s fateful infatuation with his own reflection, Mother Goose telling stories to her little ones – and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, works so well known that they are difficult to programme. Ragnhild Hemsing’s version with Hardanger fiddle, however, was impossible to resist, where the music sounds like Vivaldi travelling through Norwegian valleys in the 18th century.
