Ready for fresh air, spectacular views, and fascinating stories? Join SiS for a day trip to Preikestolen on October 25 from 8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., combining a wonderful outdoor experience with local culture and history. We’ll explore the beautiful Lysefjord, get to know the region better, and enjoy a refreshing break from student life.
🥾 Mountain hike with a view
Preikestolen offers spectacular views, but the hike up is also a challenge! The hike is approximately 8 km round trip, with around 500 meters of elevation gain, and is considered moderately demanding. You should be in reasonably good physical condition and prepared for uneven terrain and steep sections. We will hike together as a group with the guides, taking breaks as needed. The hike itself takes approximately 2–3 hours each way.

This is more than just a mountain hike! Along the way, the guides share fascinating stories about Preikestolen, Lysefjord, and the Ryfylke mountains, taking us through the history and development of the Stavanger region—from the Viking Age and the Middle Ages to the fishing industry and Stavanger’s emergence as an energy capital. You’ll experience the natural beauty while learning more about the culture and history that have shaped the region.
🏔️ Remember to dress for the weather!
Good hiking shoes or mountain boots with a solid grip are essential—running shoes with smooth soles are not recommended. Bring windproof and waterproof outerwear, warm layers, and preferably a spare change of clothes. Mountain weather can change quickly, and it may be cold and windy at the summit. Also remember to bring enough water and a good packed lunch to enjoy with views over Lysefjord! 🥪
🤝 Come alone, leave with new friends!
Student staff from SiS will be there all day, so you don’t need to know anyone beforehand. This is a great opportunity to meet other students, explore more of the region, learn something new, and take a break from your studies.

Price: NOK 100
Meeting point: The reception desk at the SiS Sports Centre at 8:45 a.m.
Departure: The bus leaves promptly at 9:00 a.m. and cannot wait!
Duration: Approximately 8 hours in total, including transportation, hiking, and a lunch break.
Please arrive well in advance! You are responsible for arriving at the correct time. If you are unable to attend, please contact us so that we can keep track of all participants.
