New as a student, how to make friends?

It can take time for everything to fall into place when you've moved to a new city, and this situation can feel lonely for many students. What can you do? Get some good advice along the way:

As a student, there are many people around you all the time, but the threshold can be high to get to know them. We can feel lonely even when there are people all around us.

You might recognize many by appearance, and maybe you greet them and exchange a few words. You can have many friends on social media, but few you have dinner with. So, we are lonely even if we are not alone.

In student surveys, loneliness is reported as one of the students' biggest mental health problems. Therefore, it can be wise to be proactive, find your group, whether it's in your studies or through a student activity. Find those people who expect you to show up.

Here we have tailored some good advice and offers that you as a student can access for free to be social and connect with others. We humans are not built to carry difficult problems alone, we need to be there for each other.
