Violence, Wrath, and Weapons: A Typical Tuesday in the Viking Age?
PåmeldingKontakt arrangør
We welcome you to exciting conversations about the Viking Age. Why do we believe what we believe about the Viking Age? How was Viking art and its relationship to warrior culture and poetry? Who were these Viking warriors? ... and what about all the others?
On the panel is Caroline Paterson, an expert in Viking art who will share her knowledge of Jåttåsvedet and its history. She will also discuss men and the warrior role in the Viking Age and how this may have influenced society.
The second panel participant is Professor Sigmund Oehrl from the Archaeological Museum, University of Stavanger, who can tell us about Viking Age art and its relationship to warrior culture and poetry. We will gain a deeper understanding of how art and culture can give us insight into Viking society.
Dr. Roderick Dale from the Faculty of Education and Humanities at the University of Stavanger is the third panelist. He will share his expertise in Norse literature, Viking history, and reception studies. He will explore how our current perception of the Viking Age has been shaped and why we believe what we do about this exciting period in history.
The conversation is led by Guttorm Andreasen, who also plays some appropriate table music before the conversation.
At 6:00 PM, the audience will have the opportunity to see the very Jåttå sword that is still being preserved!
Free admission!
The conversation starts at 6:30 PM and the bar is open until 9 PM.
This evening, the conversation will be in English. Welcome!
