April 6th will be a well above average pleasant evening in Maskinhallen, when we get a visit from both Misty Coast and Rural Tapes!

Misty Coast is the dream pop child of Linn Frøkedal and Richard Myklebust, also known from the noise masters, The Megaphonic Thrift. After ten years on the road with amplifiers cranked to 11, tours with big indie heroes like Dinosaur Jr and Stephen Malkmus, mild tinnitus and Spellemannpris on the shelf, Frøkedal and Myklebust decided to adjust the recipe and concoct a new witch's brew. This time the beauty was not to be hidden behind a blanket of noise, but the pop melody was to be allowed to lie on top of the blanket.

Since Misty Coast's debut album in 2017, the band has been on tours in Japan, Great Britain and Europe, played a triple-digit number of club concerts and festivals, been nominated for the Spellemannprisen and received rave reviews both at home and abroad. Misty Coast is known for its strong guitar hooks, lingering basslines and catchy, dreamy vocal melodies, and parallels can be drawn to bands such as Cocteau Twins, Mazzy Star, PJ Harvey and Broadcast. In the autumn of 2023, Misty Coast released their fourth album "Nevereverending", which was recorded at the dining table in the couple's apartment on Torshov in Oslo, in the lighthouse keeper's home on the island of Utsira and at producer Matias Tellez in Bergen.

Rural Tapes is the instrumental solo project of Arne Kjelsrud Mathisen, otherwise known from a. I Was a King and The No Ones. The project has received an enormous response internationally, among others highlighted by Uncut, GQ Magazine, The Independent and declared genius by Mojo, who described the music as a hybrid between Kraftwerk, Air, Tortoise and Serge Gainsbourg. The previous record, "Inner space music", was nominated here at home for the Edvard Prize and named the year's best Norwegian release in the Klassekampen. In February, Rural Tape's fourth album "Contact" will be released on Swedish Smuggler Recordings, and live the line-up is a quartet consisting of Kjelsrud Mathisen, Øystein Braut, Lars Løberg Tofte and Sigurd Thomassen. In terms of genre, the band is at the intersection between krautrock, jazz, psych rock and ambient, all the while with clear nods to the 60s and 70s.
