Rolf Gupta's evocative Epilogue from Earth's Song opens the concert with a gentle look at the human relationship with nature. This is followed by Anders Hillborg's expressive and virtuosic violin concerto – a piece that challenges both performer and listener. Finally, we will experience Tchaikovsky's poignant fifth symphony, with its themes of fate and emotional power. The symphony was not well received at its premiere in 1888, and Tchaikovsky himself called it a failure. Today, it is considered one of the most famous and frequently performed symphonies of all time.
