Welcome to Velferden and our major summer exhibition DEPARTURE / DEPOSIT!
We are very proud to present brand new artworks by 9 visual artists who have had production residencies at Velferden over the last 3 years.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION ABOUT OPENING DAY:

TIME: Opening June 6, 11:00–15:30
PLACE: Velferden

The exhibition opens Saturday June 6 at 11:00 with an opening speech on the steps by the mayor of Sokndal Municipality, Bjørn-Inge Mydland.
The day will be filled with guided tours, performances and workshops, and is suitable for all ages and for families. Stay tuned for an updated program for the day!

Food and drinks will be for sale in Velferden’s café.
The event is free of charge.

FREE BUS
For opening day we are putting on a free bus with the veteran bus Lynet. You can get on at Egersund Station, Egersund town center or Hauge town center. For those coming from Stavanger and Jæren, we have scheduled the bus times to match the local train from Stavanger.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
The artists in the exhibition are: Anna Carin Hedberg, Ebba Moi, Hanna Sjöstrand, Linda Lamignan, Lisa Torell, Pierre Matte, Simon Daniel Tegnander Wenzel, Siri Austeen, Tove Kommedal

The artists have worked in close contact with the landscape in Sokndal, starting from personal encounters with the large-scale interventions in nature caused by mining. Since we started the program in 2023, they have had the opportunity to meet researchers, local residents and representatives from the mining industry, who have helped give them a rich and varied understanding of the situation here in the village. With a wealth of impressions and nuanced perspectives as a foundation, mixed with their own references and strong artistic practices, they have created works that together form a multifaceted exhibition around the theme DEPARTURE / DEPOSIT.

The exhibition consists of artistic expressions such as sound art, installation, painting, video, performance, sculpture and workshops. Everything is shown both indoors and outdoors at Sandbekk, with a dedicated section at Jøssingfjord Science Museum. In addition to the artworks by our visual artists, the exhibition also includes contributions from researchers and local experts.

The exhibition is open every weekend, Saturday and Sunday from 11:00–15:00, through August 30!
