Stavanger International Piano Festival welcomes you to this evening’s second opening concert with classical pianist and composer Hyung-ki Joo. This concert is more show‑oriented and bears the telling title “Songs in the Key of Laugh and Love.” Look forward to a humorous and playful concert experience with Hyung-ki Joo.
Songs in the Key of Laugh and Love is a truly unique concert experience where virtuosic piano playing meets sharp humor and heartfelt songs. Classical pianist and composer Hyung-ki Joo, known as the co‑creator of Igudesman & Joo, brings his trademark wit and musical exuberance to songs by some of today’s most inventive musical storytellers – from Tim Minchin to Norway’s genre‑bending Ylvis, and Hollywood actor and musician Hugh Laurie, known to many as Dr. House.
Hyung-ki Joo is internationally recognized for his commitment to making classical music accessible to new and diverse audiences through innovative concert formats. On stage he captivates with infectious energy, warmth, and virtuosity, moving effortlessly between the roles of pianist, communicator, arranger, and composer. He has performed as a soloist with leading orchestras such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.
Recent highlights include concerts with the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, appearances at the festivals in Vienna and Salzburg, as well as collaborations with soprano Asmik Grigorian. In the 2025/26 season he continues his international touring with solo recitals and orchestral projects in Europe and Asia, including performances at La Scala in Milan.
