2025 marks a modest 20th anniversary for the South-Western Norwegian trio, who are one of Norway's leading representatives of an increasingly endangered DIY/underground pop scene.

I Was a King has stood rock solid in their belief in the power of a good melody, where kinship with groups like The Byrds, Big Star, or Teenage Fanclub is no secret, rather a tremendous strength, while through 9 albums they have managed to create their own sound.

The band has been noted for several Spellemann nominations and chart positions, and has received glowing reviews both abroad and within national borders. In their relentless quest for perfect pop and sonic bliss, the band has previously collaborated with international greats such as Norman Blake from Teenage Fanclub, Sufjan Stevens, Robyn Hitchcock, and Bill Rieflin from R.E.M. and King Crimson.

On October 17th, they release their tenth album, which several have already described as I Was a King in widescreen. The album 'Until The End' was recorded in the spring of 2025 in West-Kirby, outside Liverpool with producer Bill Ryder-Jones (The Coral, Arctic Monkeys).
