The main work in this matinee concert is a new piece commissioned by Song Circus from one of our foremost living composers, Eivind Buene. As the title suggests, the work is inspired by French Baroque music, which was written for performance during the Passiontide leading up to Good Friday. Much of the text material for the work is drawn from the Book of Lamentations in the Bible, as was done in the 17th century, but here it is combined with texts from Finn Lunker's book "Voices from Israel," which are testimonies of destruction and death in the West Bank and Gaza.
The composition premiered in Uranienborg Church on March 9 this year during the Oslo Church Music Festival for a large audience and received very good reviews. We are pleased to present this work at the Norwegian Organ Festival, with an introductory part of the concert by our guest organist Catalina Vicens. She will be playing the handheld medieval portative organ, organetto.
We provide free bus transportation from Stavanger city center to Utstein Monastery and back. Reserve your seat with the registration form: https://forms.gle/f9pgugrEsXnAkR1H7
