The Kid was Chaplin’s first feature film, and is perhaps the most moving of all his films. In the portrayal of the little boy’s impoverished childhood, there is likely much drawn from Chaplin’s own upbringing in London. What leaves the strongest impression in the film, however, are the intense and expressive moments between Chaplin and the child star Jackie Coogan.
