You have the right to change your general practitioner (GP) twice per calendar year. Helsenorge administers the GP scheme, and through their service, you can:

  • Find out which GP you have
  • See your GP's address and phone number
  • Change your GP
  • Enroll in or opt-out of the scheme
  • Search for a GP based on different criteria
  • See how many changes you have left
  • See who your previous GPs were

Remember, you do not need to have registered a change of address to Stavanger or Sandnes to get a GP here. People who have moved within Norway and reported the move to the National Registry can get their old GP back if they move back to their home municipality within three years.

We primarily offer three ways to get a consultation:

  1. Most people who want a consultation fill out an assessment form and wait to be contacted for their first appointment. (There may be a wait time depending on when in the year you reach out)
  2. Some people know they only need one consultation and can check for available drop-in appointments in the calendar. There are limited slots available each week, so sometimes there might be none available, but new slots are continuously added (only one week in advance).
  3. Video consultation with a psychologist (free). Here, there is almost no wait time, and it is only available via video.

If you have moderate to severe difficulties, your GP can refer you to specialist health services. It can be challenging to assess the severity of your problems on your own, but your GP can help with this. Consider how the problems affect your daily life. Are you able to function and do what you need to do or not?

Remember, if you need urgent help, contact the emergency medical service at 116 117 or ambulance at 113.

If your problems are not that severe, but you still want help quickly, you can contact our partner psychologists at Coperio for video consultations. This service also offers short-term therapy, with the only difference being that all consultations are conducted via video. There are usually appointments available the same day or up to a week in advance.

Also, check the overview of other help services in the area.

To receive consultations/help from the health department at SiS, it is necessary for the individual to want the help themselves. Feel free to talk openly with your friend about what makes you concerned and encourage them to seek help on their own. There are many places to find help, so please also take a look at our overview of other help services. If your friend wants help from us, here is what we offer:

  • Drop-in
  • Short-term therapy at the office
  • Video consultation with a psychologist – no wait time

If the situation is more serious, or you are unsure about what kind of help is needed, you can encourage the person to contact their GP.

No, unfortunately, we do not conduct assessments for AD/HD in the health department at SiS. You should contact your general practitioner who can help assess the severity of your difficulties. If you and your GP determine that the difficulties are moderate to severe, your GP can refer you to the District Psychiatric Center (DPS) for assessment. It's important to note that DPS facilities receive many referrals for AD/HD assessments, and as a result, some referrals may be declined, and individuals may not undergo assessment.
