The residence assistant is your contact person, and link to SiS housing. The residence assistant has a number of social and practical duties:

• Welcoming new tenants, and giving them practical information when moving in
• Helping to organize cleaning and tidying of the communal areas
• Arrange social activities for the tenants
• Contribute to a good living environment and prevent conflicts

After SiS’ opening hours, please contact Securitas (22 97 10 76) if you are experiencing unsafe episodes in your building. The same goes for vandalism, electrical problems, water leaks, etc.

If you lose your keys outside reception opening hours, Securitas can assist you. This costs NOK 1.250,-.

Here you will find informational videos about the fire procedures for our student accommodation. We have divided it into three categories:

To ensure fire safety in our homes, it is important that you as a tenant read this. The lack of response to the alarm/ fire, the use of non-approved equipment, etc. may lead to prosecution or incur financial liability. You should only use approved electrical equipment. See house rules and lease for further information.

It is very important that you avoid constant unwanted alarms, as this contributes to a lack of reaction in the event of a real fire.

Fire instructions

• If the alarm goes off, an automatic notification will be sent to the fire department, who are immediately called out. Emergency fire phone 110
• Help others- try to extinguish the fire if possible.
• Close doors and windows
• Wheelchair access: If help is not provided, stay in the room or balcony or at the balcony and call the fire department 110 and wait for help.
• Residents should gather on the outside of the building, clearly visible without being an obstacle to the fire department.
• If false alarm - wait for permission to return to the building.

If the alarm is triggered accidentally: (vapors, fumes, showering, cigarette smoke, etc.)

• Call the fire department - phone 110 - report the false alarm, even if they are already on their way.
• Silence the alarm on the fire control panel (see instructions at the main entrance)
• Meet the fire department.

Extinguishing equipment

Familiarize yourself with the equipment available. These are available in all homes. The most common are dry chemicals but fire hoses can also occur.

Escape routes

If there is a fire, it will be of great importance for the evacuation that residents have made themselves familiar with the current evacuation routes. The lift should not be used. Escape routes and emergency exits must always be free, in case of evacuation. This is a demand from the fire service. SiS housing can make the tenants financially liable for damage to property and loss of lives and health. (This means that it is not allowed and leave their bags, shoes, boxes, etc. in corridors and stairwells).

How to avoid alarms in the home

• Fire prevention is very important to avoid constant false alarms, as this contributes to a lack of response in case of a real fire.
• Never leave the stove when you are cooking. It is important that the person who switches on the stove also ensures that it is switched off.
• Always use the hood when cooking also when using electronics such as waffle iron, toaster, kettle, rice cooker, etc.
• Keep stoves and griddles clean. When burnt food particles can trigger the alarm.
• Fire detectors must not be removed or covered.

Tenants can be charged if it is proved that they trigger the alarm on purpose. Our fire alarm system is designed in the best possible way to warn of a fire. And being continually tested and maintained.

Fire Central

Get to know the fire alarm system and contact SiS housing if you feel it is necessary for further training.

Fire control panel with instructions on how the fire control panel works can be found at the main entrance to the residence. The alarm is displayed in the fire control panel where there is a fire or where an unwanted alarm is triggered. This is important in order to extinguish the fire, and particularly in relation to evacuation. Remember that the landlord has the primary key.

In case of false alarm

Have you triggered the fire alarm by mistake?

If so, you have to call 110 before 90 seconds have passed, to stop an emergency response from the fire department.

We are billed 10.000 NOK by the fire department for an unnecessary response. If you don’t call the alarm off in time, you will be billed this amount.

You can stay in SiS housing for a maximum of five (5) years.

If you have children, you can apply for housing allowance from Husbanken

No animals or pets are allowed in SiS housing.

Remember home content insurance when you move in - you are not insured through SiS. You can check if you are insured through your parents' insurance, an organization you are a member of, or if not buy your own.

Why home content insurance? Should unforeseen events occur, such as a fire, water damage, burglary in your home or shed, this can lead to expenses and losses for you as a resident. You can use content insurance to limit your own financial loss in such cases.

Please remember that you are responsible for making sure that the bills are paid and for any damage to the property or premises.

You do not have to pay a deposit to stay in SiS housing. Electricity, Internet, and use of the laundry room are included in your rent.

The first rent payment is due after you have moved in. You can collect your invoice from My profile on Uni Alltid, where you will find it at the start of each month. The invoice is due on the 20th of the same month. The rent can also be paid by e-invoice. It comes to your online bank, and you only need to confirm the payment. If you have not paid the rent by the due date, you will be charged a late fee.

Wifi is delivered by Telia and is included in your rent. To connect, please use the password typed on the router. Click here for a short step-by-step guide on how to get online.

To report a fault or defect in your apartment, please use the inquiry button on our housing page.

Dorms, single dormitories and the one-room apartments in Jernalderveien 57 are furnished with a bed, desk, wardrobe and blinds or curtains.

The two-room and three-room apartments are unfurnished, but have kitchens and wardrobes. Curtains or blinds in the windows.

Every apartment has an accompanying storage unit.

Your contract gives you a lease for one school year. You will be given an opportunity to apply for a prolonged contract in January. This contract has to be accepted within March 1st. Your rent will be revised from July 1st.

Requirements for applying for an extension:

• Documentation of continued right to study must be submitted
• All bills must be paid

You can collect your keys at Kitty Kiellands hus at the university campus (UiS). Please remember to bring your enrollment papers and a receipt showing that you have paid the student fee. If anything is wrong with your apartment, please let us know immediately.

If you lose your keys after SiS’ opening hours, you can call Securitas (22 97 10 76) to get help. This will cost you 1.250 NOK.

If you are moving out after opening hours, please leave your key in the hatch to the left of the main door to Kitty Kiellands hus. Seal your key in an envelope with your name and telephone number on the front, first. You’ll find envelopes beside the hatch.

You must give notice at least two (2) months before moving out of your apartment. The only accepted method of giving notice is by using our housing page.

General information about parking:

It is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with the rules regarding parking. These rules are subject to change, and it is important that you keep up to date on the information we provide here.

The electrical outlets from our student apartments, or external electrical outlets, should not be used to charge electric cars. Where we do not have charging stations, you must use fast chargers. You can look up the locations of these fast charging stations at Norsk elbilforening's website or app.

Cars without a license plate or cars that are not used weekly should not take up our parking spaces. These cars will be removed, and the cost will fall on the owner.

Jernalderveien 57:

Residents who have a car must have parking stixkers. Parking stickers can be picked up in SiS's reception at Kitty Kielland's hus.

There are charging options for electric cars with a payment solution for our residents. Instructions can be found on the charging station and in the app «Charge 365», which must be downloaded for access. The parking spaces belonging to the charging station must only be used by electric cars that are being charged.

We ask you to familiarize yourself thoroughly with the signage and current parking regulations for the area.

The students have to clean the communal areas themselves. The house guide can help you, by organizing cleaning lists. We expect the communal areas to be clean and tidy when you leave them. The areas must be cleaned thoroughly twice per semester. SiS housing will arrange these cleanings. SiS housing informs about the distribution of work, and checks the rooms afterwards.

All rubbish must be sorted at source. Buried waste containers are located at the end of the car park. These are open. Please do not leave rubbish next to the waste stations. This will not be retrieved.

In the common rooms, you’ll find a TV with Chromecast. Here you can stream whatever you want!

When moving out, please remember to give notice, and to clean the apartment. It is to be handed over to SiS in the same condition as it was when you moved in. You hand in the key at the SiS reception, or in the post box of the SiS residence. The post box is to the left of the main entrance door to Kitty Kielland's house on Campus Ullandhaug.

The apartment will be checked by a caretaker, and you will be invoiced for any damage or poor washing.

Please watch this video or read the guidelines for cleaning the apartment when moving out, below. Unsatisfactory cleaning will be fined.

The flat/apartment:

Wash workstations and other tables

• Wipe chairs/vacuum clean
• Wipe beds/vacuum clean
• Wash bookshelves and lamps
• Wash floors and lists (wash under beds and furniture)
• Wash walls (remove footmarks under desks/beds)
• Dust ceiling with a damp cloth
• Wash wardrobe inside and out
• Wash doors
• Clean every windows from the inside. Wash the exterior of the reversible windows as well.
• Wash curtains at 30 degrees in the machine. Do not use the dryer.
• Wash colored top mattress at 60 degrees (see washing instructions)
• Wash white stretch sheets / top mattress at 95 degrees. Do not use the dryer.

Bathroom/WC:

• Shower curtains washed at 40 degrees with gentle drying
• Clean mirror, sink, cabinets, and toilets
• Dust off floors, walls and ceilings with a damp cloth
• Wash door

Communal hallway:

• Dust wipe the floors, walls, cabinets and with a damp cloth
• Clean the storage room/wash and remove content

Shared kitchen:

• Empty and wash the drawers and cabinets
• Empty the fridge
• Please check out the washing lists and coordinate with the other residents about washing the common areas.

Private kitchen:

• Empty and clean out drawers and closets (also upstairs closets) and clean the countertop
• Wash walls and floors. Dust the ceiling with a damp cloth.
• Clean refrigerator, stove, and kitchen ventilator thoroughly inside and out
• Clean behind and under the stove after the cooker is pulled out from the bench.

You have access to the communal laundry, located to the right of the main entrance.
